Carved from Oak, given to me by my brother and his wife, I thought that maybe this would be the appropriate time to try and carve a "double figure" carving and to throw in some more challenges why not make it a Bust where the major focal point would be facial features (Boy, sometimes I wonder if I'm not on Dope when I come up with these ideas. I'm dreading the day when I say "Hey, why don't I carve my next carving with my eyes closed"). Anyway, enough of this rambling. This carving gave me so many challenges that all I could do was jump right in and tackle them the best I could as they came up - Oak: too hard for knives, Sexes: male - female, Features: hair texture & style, facial looks, expressions, Overall proportions, Positioning and the list goes on. I enjoyed the project and the realization that I'll be able to carve for the next HUNDRED YEARS and still have lots to learn and improve on.
