Krazy Santa
Krazy Santa started out as a block of wood I thought was a very weathered, rotting piece of Bass. After cleaning it up and starting the carving, I began to realise that even though this wood was light like Bass it began to show a distinctive grain like Fir. This is therefore my 3rd carving using Fir. I'm not sure where I got it , but it ended up in my "scrap-ends" wood box and got selected for this project - no going back now!
As I got farther into the wood it started showing streaks of gray like ash and became dirty to handle. I'm wondering if the tree it came from was in a fire at one time - no going back now!
To finish Krazy Santa, I used Tunge Oil Sealer for the skin color, Sedona Red for the touque and Pickled Oak for everything white. The Pickled Oak would not "take" very well to the wood but - no going back now!
After 4 coats of Pickled Oak and a complete spray cover of McDonald PRO-TECTA-COTE - I got what you see!
